About the Event

When we are awake and attentive to the present moment, life reveals that it is continually changing, uncertain, and that humans are vulnerable in so many ways. Faced with these challenges, it’s no wonder that so often we react with fear, anxiety, and a worried mind.

Drawing on the methods grounded in mindfulness, investigation, and lovingkindness, this retreat will encourage and support the developing of a calm, open-hearted, and wise attitude in working with fear when it arises. By shining the light of awareness on our conditioned habits of mind, we free up our potential to respond with equanimity, discernment, and compassion rather than contract with aversion and suffering when we face difficult moments in our lives.

Join Michael Grady, one of our most popular and insightful teachers, for a three-day immersion in mindfulness and awareness. There will be periods of sitting meditation, walking meditation, instruction, and Q&A with Michael. There will also be breaks in the schedule for mealtimes, and for attendants to take care of personal activities in their homes.

Teacher Bio

Michael began practicing Insight Meditation with Joseph Goldstein and Sharon Salzberg in 1974, after they first returned to the U.S. from Asia, and joined the effort to bring Buddhism and meditation practice to the West. He has also been a student of the late Chan master Sheng Yen who taught the practice of Silent Illumination - a practice which emphasizes relaxing the body and mind while practicing awareness, without expectations or an agenda.

Michael is a Core Teacher at Insight Meditation Society (IMS) in Barre, Ma and was a Guiding teacher at the Cambridge Insight Meditation Center for more than 20 years.

Having taught extensively in both intensive retreats and in an urban dharma center, Michael encourages a wholistic attitude towards practice – in which all of life is viewed as an opportunity for awakening to freedom.
